Global Internal Audit Standards Project Update September 2024
Here is September’s update!
Existing Technical Guidance review is now moving ahead and over the summer a total of 51 pieces have now been updated to reflect the new Global Internal Audit Standards, but also refreshing the links to supporting information. There is more to do as there are still around 200 pieces to review, however we plan to have these completed before the end of the year.
New Technical Guidance focusing on the Global Internal Audit Standards 2024 is continuing. New guidance is about to published on applying the Global Standards in small internal audit functions and then moving on to Training.
Our focus now is on applying the content of the new Quality Assessment Manual which will be published by Global IIA on 26 September. This will result in an update to our Self-Assessment Tool (which we are currently updating to reflect the new Code of Practice launched on 11 September), as well as creating a new shorter piece of guidance on Quality Assessment and Improvement Programs.
We also continue to work with CIPFA on the Public Sector Internal Audit Standards and a consultation is due to be issued by them very soon.
Events continue to be arranged on the new Global Standards. Upcoming events are at the National Conference in October (with two sessions) and at the Scottish Key event in November. We also have various forums and regional key events which include the Global Standards. Global IIA continues to review its existing guidance to align to the new GIAS. The work on the Quality Assessment Manual has concluded and it is being published through the bookstore on 26 September. The first draft Technical Requirement – Cybersecurity is currently being reviewed and updated based on all the consultation and other feedback that global have received and we expect the final version to be available by the end of this year.
Certified Internal Auditor syllabus has now been finalised and is being launched in September by Global IIA. Remember that any CIA exams that you pass by 1 May 2025 will remain valid and you will not have to resit these.
